The first season of the original Amazon Prime series The Family Man released in September 2019 to critical acclaim. It received positive responses from audiences as well and went on to become the most viewed web series on the platform. The second season of the series featuring Manoj Bajpayee as the seeming sarkari-babu but secret spy was delayed and will now release on 4th June 2021. Check out the trailer of The Family Man 2 and some reactions; also see why #FamilyMan2_against_Tamils was trending.
Our harried family man Srikant Tiwari – who also happens to lead a dangerous double life as a secret highly trained and brilliant spy is back with season 2. While season 1 dealt with trying to stop Operation Zulfiqar, a nerve gas attack planned by terrorists, this one deals with a rebel organisation with ISI links.
We see Telugu star Samantha's digital debut in this series. The second season will also see Priyamani as Srikant’s wife, Sharad Kelkar as her colleague Arvind, Gul Panag as Saloni and Sharib Hashmi as JK Talpade, Srikant’s colleague reprising their roles from the first season.
I am not a huge fan of the spy genre in general, but I thought that The Family Man made for compelling and entertaining viewing. Great performances, a taut storyline, believable characters, a fair sprinkling of humour and good writing make the series quite binge-worthy.
Some people are wondering if there is a hint in the trailer from the series directors, Raj Nidimoru and Krishna D.K., collectively known as Raj & DK.
Moosa played by Neeraj Madhav was a fascinating character in season one. It is unclear whether he will be seen again in season 2.
The trailer hints at more of that winning combination of slick, fast paced action and a parallel track of a guy struggling with this everyday home and relationship challenges.
This is almost a given, these days – all high profile new releases become mired in controversy with some or other or other group taking offence. This second series is being seen as furthering anti-Tamil propaganda.
The trailer refers to ‘rebels’ once and has a character speaking Tamil (presumably since I don’t understand the language). The action seems set in Chennai. From this, some people have inferred that an entire community has been presented as ‘extremists’.
The controversy notwithstanding, this promises to be good quality, highly watchable content – heaven knows, after the excruciating Radhe, we need it.
Counter a mediocre film by choosing to watch good quality content over it – right on!
Season one was highly watchable. The trailer of season 2, The Family Man 2 promises to be the same. Viewers are looking forward to its release on 4 June 2021.
