In the interests of full disclosure, I must tell you that this is not a Netflix series that stars Shah Rukh Khan, merely a series that is produced by Shah Rukh Khan’s Red Chillies Entertainment. It is intriguingly titled Bard of Blood, stars Emraan Hashmi and Sobhita Dhulipala (of Made in Heaven fame) will be coming to TV or a handheld device near you on 27 September 2019.
The series is based on a novel of the same name by Bilal Siddiqi and is directed by Ribhu Dasgupta. Apart from Hashmi and Dhulipala the series will star Vineet Kumar Singh, Kirti Kulhari, Jaideep Ahlawat, Ivan Sylvester Rodrigues, Rajit Kapur, Amyra Dastur and others. The story is about a RAW agent on a covert mission with a sleeper agent and an analyst – to rescue four RAW agents being held in Balochistan.
SRK tweeted this to his fans when the posted the trailer of Bard of Blood on Twitter.
SRK has been involved in the making and promotion of the Netflix series. He is seen here with Hashmi in this promo trailer of the series where he adroitly plays something of a buffoon who is easily hoodwinked by the smooth, skilled ‘Adonis’.
While there were varied reactions to the series trailer, the promo starring SRK attracted positive reactions.
Many, particularly those who have read the original book by Bilal Siddiqi, are looking forward to it being brought to life on their screens.
The trailer promises a slick, well made thriller with a lot of action and edge of the seat moments.
Inevitably, there were those whose funny bones were tickled by some of the scenes from the trailer.
This line from the film is also a likely one for the meme-makers
This line can lend itself to so many situations, that it is bound to become a meme-maker’s favourite.
Standup comic Aadar Malik shared this post – with side by side shots to indicate Bollywood’s penchant for unapologetic plagiarism.
Many Pakistani tweeple protested against the series and against SRK because this is yet another story with Pakistanis cast as villains according to them. They allege that the series promotes islamophobia by perpetuating the Muslim-as-terrorist narrative. Twitter users in Pakistan proceeded to uninstall their Netflix accounts and asked for others to do the same… I wonder who they got this uninstall-as-protest idea from!
