I am all for fashion that pushes the envelope and thinks outside the metaphorical box. However I do have to question fashion that is outrageous merely for the sake of it; some of it verging on the absurd. Critics are similarly questioning the designs of menswear designer Harikrishnan from the London College of Fashion. Check out these rather interesting inflatable trousers and the reactions to them:
"I got the idea when I was playing with my dog and I started thinking about how exaggerated objects must look from such a low angle," says the designer of these strange looking trousers.
Some people have bad memories of the egregious baggy pants of yore. They thought that these are worse.
One commentator was reminded of late David Bowie and his frequently outlandish sartorial choices.
Some were also reminded of the Oompa Loompa characters from the Roald Dahl's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
Many of the tweeple were reminded of the animated Aladdin and his trousers. Perhaps the designer was subliminally inspired by those?
Some also recalled M C Hammer and his harem pants of the time; when he sang You can’t touch this.
…Were reminded of the cartoon octopus Squidward.
The internet has a long memory – there is always someone who remembers – previously inflated trousers.
Just… why?
What real need is there for trousers such as these, asked the tweeple --- unless the human form was anatomically very different from what we know it to be?
Maybe those pants are meant to let people store food?
The tweeple also wondered whether the trousers were an actual solution for a painful inflammatory condition.
Perhaps inflatable trousers have some other practical use --- as a flotation device?
Some immediately had some rather evil ideas when they heard the word ‘inflatable’.
Maybe the trousers are just for a bit of fun.
Inflatable pants are funny! They just are.
Some thought that the design was meant to offer plenty of room for some parts of the male anatomy.
Some of us were reminded of ‘poori’ or ‘phulka’. The bizarre inflatable trousers seemed to really have ignited the imagination of the tweeple.
