I have always been puzzled by the kind of hysteria prompted by a new Apple Event or iPhone launch (actually not that surprised; I did after all learn about the Veblen Goods concept in economics class). So when the iPhone 12 series was launched at yet another #AppleEvent, there was high pitched excitement offline and especially online. It was raining memes – and not just the kidney jokes either.
The iPhone 12 Mini, iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max have been announced and will be released in November 2020.
This will be the first phone to be powered by a new type of chip, which will enable users to “edit 4K video, enhance high-resolution photos and play graphically-intensive video games more smoothly than was possible before while using less battery power.”
This is what the estimated pricing is likely to be.
Apple is all about stylish design and minimalism. For some people, they took all the minimalism too far.
The fact that this iPhone will have no charger in the box invited scorn. However, the real Apple fans were still delirious.
Some are still trying to figure out why Apple does what Apple does.
The tweeple were quite annoyed that the new iPhone is to come with no accessories at all and cannot figure out a good reason for this.
People are not convinced, however.
They weren't too impressed with the new iPhones.
Some people weren't too pleased with the iPhone 12 series; not much of an upgrade from iPhone 11 they thought.
Many on Twitter thought that the new iPhone reminded them of the iPhone 5.
Those who had or have iPhone 5 felt that that sense of familiarity with the latest iPhone being launched.
Some of the tweeple pointed out that Apple stock prices had fallen following the Apple Event.
The joke being that one needs to sell a kidney to be able to buy an iPhone.
Apple phones are still among the most expensive phones available.
For many, an iPhone becomes affordable only after several subsequent models have been released and the prices go down considerably.
While some say Apple copies features from Android phones, others feel that the reverse is true.
Those who recently bought the iPhone 11 will obviously be disappointed.
Even as they launched iPhone 12 at the Apple Event, for some, juice is still the only affordable Apple product.
