There are some things that we see in Sci Fi films, or on TV (or sometimes in our dreams) that really should have been invented by now! Why haven’t they been able to devise a way for us to recall or somehow cancel a message sent in error for instance (that dirty video you mistakenly Whatsapped to grandma or the boss joke you stupidly emailed to your boss)? Why haven’t they invented these things yet:
How wonderful to be able to go back in time… see how our ancestors lived, spoke, ate. How wonderful to be able to just go back a few minutes in time to deliver that super comeback you thought of seconds after someone was rude to you!
Remember Anil Kapoor in Mr. India and how he beat up the baddies and sorted them out in his invisible avatar (and copped a few feels with the beauteous heroine while he was at it)? Why oh why is there no device to render us all occasionally invisible?
Oh! To be able to shrink those large suitcases, a large enemy, an unseemly pot belly or a large car when there is no parking!
I’d love to be ‘bow’lingual, wouldn’t you… so you could understand when your pooch tells you it was the wind that knocked down the vase (not him), that he really missed you when you went away and… that those new dog biscuits really tasted awful!
Not one of these things in the picture…. I want one that can really fly! Over traffic jams, crowded markets and long lines… quickly, easily effortlessly!
Now admit it: you’ve wanted one ever since you first saw Star Trek on Doordarshan. Get from Nalasopara to Flora Fountain in seconds; Delhi to Mussourie without the tedium of driving through Gaziabad or the traffic jams in the hills.
This is the wish of all of us who came back to a baking hot car quietly roasting in the summer sun! This one should be easy! Why haven’t the Japanese invented it yet!
We can heat up and cook food with the press of a button or a flick of a lighter. But what about cooling down the stupidly hot soup, or quickly chilling room temperature water to make it instantly drinkable!
On the computer, tablet, phone….
And…
Heck while they're at it, how about an Undo button for life itself!
