We all know about that slow-mo slap on TV serials? Well, now we have the slow-mo mask removal and more! Clearly, there is a lot of COVID-inspiration for the writers of TV serials –masks, visors and some rather kinky sanitisation make all the content seem up to the minute! Ye Virus Kya Karvata Hai asked the tweeple.
This was identified by the tweeple as a scene from the long-running show Ye Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai. Very pandemic appropriate content, noted the tweeple.
Someone noticed that a visor or shield is a better idea than a mask – because it makes it easier to breathe and handle the heat makeup!
This is the right way to remove a mask. Apparently they're doing it wrong in the serial.
What is this relationship called? Apparently this answer has remained elusive all these years.
Some simply wondered how people continued to watch these serials year after year.
How are these serials still running, many wanted to know.
They didn’t know that this age-old show was still on.
How do they manage to retain the interest of so many for so long?
Another tweet clarified that COVID-hygiene can be used for romantic purposes as well.
Apparently putting on gloves, sanitizer, visor etc. can be a form of foreplay/turn-on?
The tweeple were aghast
All said and done, Hindi TV serials are hilarious – unintentionally so, but hilarious nevertheless.
It may be COVID-appropriate, but it still very poor quality content in terms of story, plausibility or coherence.
This according to the tweeple, is the reaction of the coronavirus itself.
The novel coronavirus is a pandemic; it is only natural that social distancing and hygiene norms are incorporated into story lines of serials.
The quality of the average Hindi TV serial continues to be poor. There is OTT melodrama, a painfully slow, repetitive narrative, unidimensional characters and a marked lack of nuance or any original/intelligent ideas. However these serials have a dedicated viewership that really begs the question Ye Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai?
