With no movies slated for release in the near future, there are few or no trailers being released on YouTube. Amidst this, they released Masakali 2.0, a reworking of A R Rahman's iconic song from Delhi 6. The video features Siddharth Malhotra and Tara Sutaria enjoying a party of two. The video quickly climbed up to the second position on trending YouTube videos, but social media was not best pleased with the song. Listen in and find out why:
The original was a wonderfully melodious, languid, groovy track that meandered its way along at a deliciously unhurried pace with understated percussions. 2.0 has very overt percussions and the melody is secondary --- it is a desecration not to put too fine a point on it. As for the mangled lyrics; don't even get me started on that.
People thought it was rubbish, to put it plainly.
There were those who loved the song --- probably because they haven’t heard the original.
Maybe people liked the chemistry between Malhotra and Sutaria in the video; which is why the song is a top trend right now. Or maybe there is just nothing else to catch people’s fancy?
Why mess with a masterpiece, asks this Twitter user.
It an assault on the senses, truth be told.
This image is that of A R Rahman’s latest Instagram post. If this is a veiled reaction to the reworking of this song, I totally sympathise.
This is deeply troubling.
T Series has been guilty of this for a long time now – taking great songs, doing unmentionable things to them and re-releasing them.
T Series really must stop this assault upon songs that are beloved to us.
It is something that T Series keeps doing. Obviously there is an audience for this out there.
Maybe the audio is terrible, but the video is strangely relatable for its time. This probably accounts for the fact that it got 18M views in just about one day since its release on 9 April. Here is a couple trying to just have a good time staying indoors. They even dress up for it. COVID-19 inspired date, anyone?
