May we just say, “ouch”! Across the world, people love inventors and scientists. These inventors enjoy great name and money and are considered legends. However, looking back in time we find certain inventors who could not live long to enjoy this fame and money and were actually killed by their own inventions.
Franz Reichelt
This French tailor is remembered for creating the parachute suit meant for the airplane pilots. His initial tests on dummies were successful hence he himself went ahead to try the suit. He jumped off the Eiffel Tower and 187 foot fall instantly killed him.
William Bullock
William Bullock is considered to be the father of the modern rotary printing press. During the installation of one of the machines, Bullock tried to kick a driving belt onto the pulley when his leg was caught and got crushed. Later, he died when doctors tried to amputate that leg.
Henry Smolinski
Smolinski along with his partner Hal Blake had founded a company Advanced Vehicle Engineers to invent the world’s first flying car. They were able to create a prototype however during a ‘routine’ flight, the wings fell off thus killing both the partners.
Marie Curie
Regarded as the brain behind radium and polonium. Marie Curie was exposed to lots of radiation during her research and eventually died due to leukemia.
