#VacuumChallenge – Not another Internet Challenge!

Social media has opened up hitherto unimaginable platforms for people to gain their metaphorical 15 minutes – OK, let’s make that few seconds – of fame. The fact that the most outlandish, and at times downright dangerous challenges seem to gain currency, is probably because of this. And now we have the bin bag or the vacuum challenge:

The latest internet challenge

It is the equivalent to being wrapped tightly in cling film or being vacuum packed – rather like a bag of nuts. One is enveloped in a garbage bag and then literally vacuumed so that all the air is sucked out.

Apparently it is hilarious

Putting a little child in a garbage bag and then vacuuming him – funny, funny, funny!

Poor little kid

I pity that poor kid – he/she may be laughing but I do wonder about the average IQ of his/her family members.

Why!

While I would ask why, others may ask why not! Apparently it is ‘shockingly tight’ and that feels… nice?

Because keeling over is fun!

So once the person is properly vacuumed, they will inevitably keep over… and that is the experience that everyone should have! Right?

Not stupid enough?

How about doing what it says on plastic bags: “this bag is not a toy. Keep out of reach of stupid people children.”

“Nearly killed myself”

All I can say is, Duh! It is enough to make one truly believe George Carlin’s words – never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups… and the internet is the largest such group of stupid people.

Plumbing the depths of stupidity

This one had the bright idea of vacuuming their entire body – head, so that they couldn’t breathe and arms and hands – so they couldn’t reach over and switch off the vacuum cleaner! Are you shaking your head and thinking artificial intelligence is no match for natural stupidity? I'm with you on this one.

Many tried it

This man clearly did not like it and seemed very relieved when it was all over. Even the dog seemed happy that the strange event was over.

Some failed

I am not sure whether that is a confession or a boast.

Can be dangerous

Yes, kids deciding to take on the ‘challenge’ can in fact be dangerous. Having parents stupid enough to vacuum their kids… even more dangerous!

Calling idiots everywhere!

This tweet acknowledges that the #VacuumChallenge is really stupid, but it also expresses the irresistible lure of rising to the bait of an internet challenge – no matter how pointless.
