Valentine’s Day Is Done and Dusted – This Will Make Singles Feel Better

The Valentine’s Day brouhaha and the week of soppiness preceding that; is most certainly the invention of clever merchandisers and marketers. But they decided that they hadn’t properly cornered the market with that; so they dedicated one day to singles as well; they chose 15th February and called it Singles Awareness Day or SAD. If you think single is in no way sad and if you feel (rightly) that you’d rather have a large fortune and a fast metabolism rather than a Valentine, read on:

Single?

Hell yeah! I hear you say – because you don’t need someone else to validate your existence. Good for you!

You like your own company!

I think it is vital that one should like being by themselves, have a healthy self-esteem and not depend upon others to feel happy or have a good time.

Sure there's pressure!

If you buy into the two-by-two narrative society foists on you; where everyone and their dog is neatly paired up, you may feel the pressure to be in some sort of relationship. Remember, societal or family pressure is the last reason to get into a relationship!

Cheers!

You can be single and perfectly happy!

If you feel like this

You see your friends settle down – even those you thought had zero prospects and even fewer chances of attracting a respectable mate. This can be demoralising.

Don’t envy them

They probably envy you. It’s always a case of the grass being greener on the other side of the fence!

True story:

If you don’t have a Valentine on Valentine’s Day, don’t be sad. Most people don’t have AIDS on AIDS day either. Remember this!

Also remember

Like I said, that week of mush – rose, propose and other assorted days are the profitmaking brainchild of a clever marketer. Don’t buy into it and certainly don’t buy the vastly overpriced and frankly cheesy items that are meant to convey true love.

Tell yourself this!

Yes, yes, you're overqualified! That is why you're single! When that busybody neighbourhood aunt asks you, this is the answer to give!

There are other things to do!

You can spend your time (and your money) in ways that you like; without feeling that you have to dance to the tunes of someone else, their wishes and desires.

And remember this!

There is no need to be sad! At least no need to be sadder on Valentine’s Day than any other day!
