Amazon Prime’s original series, Comicstaan is a talent hunt for Indian standup comics. The show includes some of India's best standups such as Biswa Kalyan Rath, Kenny Sabastian, Sumukhi Suresh, Kaneez Surka, Tanmay Bhatt and others. The second season of is Comicstaan is underway and the show came out with a promo inviting meme-makers to do their best (or worst)
Memes make the internet what it is – memes hai to mumkin hai – say the comics, inviting meme-makers to create memes with the #MemeistaanLeague hashtag.
“It’s time for all memers to shine” invited the streaming platform. A few meme templates were also provided to get the memers started.
Meme makers were happy to be thrown a fresh challenge.
Grist for the meme-mill!
This one takes a potshot at star kids – people who get into films purely on the basis of lineage; people who should really have been doing something else.
It is into season 2 now and Amazon Prime Video is the only place to watch Comicstaan.
A lot of people bought Amazon Prime for the shopping privileges it offers. The streaming service came free with it at the time for just Rs. 500 a year. A lot of people were hooked.
Salman Khan’s run-ins with the law and his acquittal in a drunk driving case have been fodder for the meme-makers for a long time now.
We’ve all wanted to soundly smack that noisy, badly behaved kid at the restaurant, airport, train… haven’t we? Or more accurately we've wanted to smack the clueless parent.
This can also be replaced with – तू जानता नहीं मेरा बाप कौन है! (you don’t know who my father is).
A lot of people would rather not let others know what they do on their phone… especially not a parent.
...You forget important stuff? Because the real joy of travel is only with good music!
Many of us feel duty bound to abide by the expectations of parents, kids, relatives, neighbours… because sanskaar!
What a useful phrase… swaad anusasr sanskaar!
Clearly #MemeistaanLeague is a good idea from Comicstaan – many meme makers are possessed of genuine wit and intelligence. It would be a good idea for some of these to be recognised.
