What Is The #Merekhwabonmeinjoaaye Challenge All About

Rarely are internet challenges about anything remotely useful or important; mostly they are about a bunch of self-absorbed people being even more self-absorbed. However, there are times when internet challenges can be used to send out a positive message and employed as a way to increase awareness. Soon after superstar Amitabh Bachchan shared a funny video about the importance of calling out those who litter, the #MereKhwabonMeinJoAaye Challenge became viral.

The Mere Khwabon Mein Jo Aaye video

The video shows many people being mock-threatened by others for various reasons: littering, stealing, beating someone else, wasting water and so on.

Amitabh Bachchan tweeted it

He shared the video along with some nonsense syllables and some laughter emojis.

People liked it

They thought it was a good initative to draw attention to the problem of littering; to the fact that people don’t bother to use dustbins even when they are within arms’ reach.

Infotainment

This Twitter user expressed the view that such a video helped to inform as well as entertain; and in the bargain sent out a positive message supporting the Swachh Bharat movement.

Some shared similar videos

People shared similar videos where litterers were called out or schooled in other ways. In this video as well, a thoughtless litter bug gets pranked into picking up her own rubbish.

Nationwide rage

Some were of the view that the funny video had the potential to send out a positive message and to spread it far and wide.

Remaining part

According to this twitter user, the video is longer and apparently there are several more people doing that sort of peacock-move with their heads jerking back and forth.

Some didn’t like it

Some thought that the video was nonsensical and that the TikTok app is bringing out a new level of stupidity among people.

Most thought it was hilarious

They thought all those people jerking around and dancing to the DDLJ song were just objectively funny.

More importantly

Many saw more than just the video and appreciated the message it sends out to people – not to litter, to save water, to be patient and nonviolent and to be mindful of being a good citizen. If a silly challenge serves to inform people, make them think and bring about behavioural change, this can only be a good thing, surely.
