We are Indians. We have certain tastes and we like to spice everything up. We have added masala to pasta and invented just so many variations of rice. One of our favourite cuisines is Chinese food but we eat Indian Chinese and not authentic Chinese (which may prove to be a bit hard for us to swallow anyway). here are all the reasons why we can never really eat authentic Chinese.
We like Indian spices in everything
Yes, we are fans of spices. For an Indian imagining food without spices is the same as a human imagining his life without oxygen. Did you know that Manchurian is nowhere close to any type of Chinese dish?
Most of the original ingredients aren’t even available in India
Sichuan peppers, wood ears, black fungus are some things that are not found in our country. So there is no way one can prepare original Chinese food here.
What is delicious there is frowned upon here
What if you went to a restaurant and learnt that they serve sharks’ fins, bird’s nests, frog’s throat, pig’s ears and oxtail? I am sure reading this is making you squint, wondering how one can eat that?
We wouldn’t like the food the way it is meant to be had
We need rice fried. We need noodles fried. But did you know that the Chinese eat both these things plain steamed or boiled?
We absolute love our gravy and must have it in everything
We are so very into this gravy thing that we cannot imagine food that’s dry and stir fried. At least not as the only dish with which to eat our steamed rice or noodles.
