Who Is Dhinchak Pooja And Why Are Her Videos No Longer Available?

In a world constantly on the lookout for something new, something different, even the bizarre; often the frankly egregious succeeds. Dhinchak Pooja burst on to the scene and was welcomed in much the same way we embraced the execrable Taher Shah not so long ago; they are so bad, they are awesome! Dhinchak Pooja came like a bolt from the blue; but just like that bolt, she has also disappeared from our collective virtual firmaments. What happened!!?

It’s known as cringe pop

It is so bad it is good. It makes you cringe; it is cringe pop – a world of pain. We could say that king of cringe pop Taher Shah set the stage for Dhinchak Pooja.

Dhinchak Pooja

So when Dhinchak Pooja and her Selfie maine legi aaj video appeared in May 2017, it instantly went viral…we were all amazed, horrified and full of admiration all at once! The sheer awfulness of the besur, betaal, tuneless, off key, off beat of the video, created by a disarmingly guileless and enthusiastic looking Pooja ensured an instant hit.

Millions of views, almost 2 lakh subscribers

The hoimicide inducing videos garnered a fascinated, horrified appreciation from viewers: 30 million plus views and 1.9 lakh subscribers.

The word spread fast

“ I've found that people tend to leave you alone after they've seen you listen songs like Selfie Maine Leli Aaj by -#Dhinchakpooja” said one tweet. Others said that their ears bled upon hearing the song; some thought that surviving after listening to the song was nothing short of heroic.

But wither the videos?

Just as we were witnessing the super-success of Dhinchak Pooja with her utterly brilliant Swag Wali Topi, Daru Daru Daru the videos were deteleted! Her YouTube page now bears a forlorn look, save the one song put there on public demand: Dilon ka Shooter (hai mera scooter).

There were many theories

Her ‘fans’ were devastated. Others had different views.

Someone called Katthappa Singh is responsible

Even the BBC wanted to know what happened to Pooja Jain’s (that is her real name) songs. It was a person called Kathappa Singh (true story) who claimed copyright infringement and this made YouTube take the videos off.

Some were sad, some celebrated

While one sarcastic wit thought it was heart wrenching; “taking away life's little joys”, another thought the videos being taken down would lead to world peace.

Here is some consolation

So what if some videos got deleted! There is more where that came from. Here is Suzainne Sinner (Jacintha Morris). Never let it be said that there is any dearth of talent in India; even if it be talent in the cringe pop department!
