When one is a celebrity in India, one has to be prepared to be trolled for pretty much anything… merely for breathing even. Sonakshi Sinha is trolled for a lot of things: not being a good enough actor, for doing progressive/regressive roles, for being a certain weight, for being her father’s daughter. This time she was trolled for going to the popular game show hosted by Amitabh Bachchan and not knowing the answer to what ought to have been a fairly easy question.
She lives in a home called Ramayana, her father and brothers are named for characters in the epic, as are her uncles. The popular opinion was that she should jolly well have known the answer to this simple question – for whom did Hanuman fetch the Sanjeevni herb.
In Delhi, class six children study the Ramayan for a year in Hindi class.
It is difficult to believe that anyone could have a problem answering this question.

Soon everyone had an opinion on the intellect of Sonakshi Sinha (or the alleged lack thereof).
People wondered how it was possible not to know the answer to something this simple.

For some, Sinha’s unfortunate outing on KBC was reassuring. This commentator used to think that celebrity outings on KBC were staged but he now fells that they are genuine.
As expected, Alia Bhatt was dragged into the fray.
One Twitter user felt that Sonakshi had her nose cut metaphorically – much as Surpankha had hers literally cut off in the epic story.
People also pointed out that only Sinha got trolled for not knowing the answer; not the other woman who was contesting.
The Tweeple had a field day ridiculing Sinha.
Scene from Dabangg.
Sinha had this breezy reply for the trolls who seemed to be having such a wonderful time creating memes and making hashtags with her name in them.
Was this staged silliness? Was Sonakshi Sinha asked to play dumb on Kaun Banega Crorepati? To answer this question, let us ask one more question – if Sonakshi Sinha had answered the simple question correctly, would the #YoSonakshiSoDumb hashtag be trending; would it have made headlines the way it did? Therein lies the answer to the previous questions.
