Back in the day, they were called tennis shoes – they were nondescript white shoes usually with a thin rubbery green sole and cloth uppers that had to be ‘Blanco’ed – to be worn on some days of the week in school. Now there exists an infinite variety of sneakers, trainers, kicks, gym shoes… some exceedingly weird as well. Recently images of a pair of ‘sandwich’ sneakers went viral but these are far from the only weird sneaker shoe designs out there.
This is by a brand called Dolls Kill. Where Are U Wearing Them, asked the Instagram post. Someone said they worked at Subway and wore them to work, which sounded about right. Someone else said the psych ward, cause that’s probably where my parents would send me if I started wearing these, which also sounds about right.
This is the brand’s motto, a self-proclaimed IDGAF (acronym for "I don't give a fuck") attitude. The shoes are… interesting. Wonder if they are comfortable?
Jeremy Scott Adidas is the brand name and there are options for those that like to ‘wear’ teddy bears on their feet. This eye-catching colourful design or the slightly less noticeable beige and tan colour scheme are available for about $72.
This is neither sneaker nor thong nor chappal. If ever there was a shoe with an identity crisis, it is this. These Converse…let’s just call it footwear will cost about $60.
This pair created by Gabriel Dishaw is sort of a best from waste project. These shoes are made from old pieces of metal, computer chips, type writer pieces etc. Statement shoes for the geek!
These strange shoes seem to look perpetually as though they got stuck on some bubblegum. I suppose this would be good for someone with a great sense of humour – or someone who doesn’t mind being laughed at.
Sometime back there was this heelless shoe trend that mercifully died a natural death. At the time, we saw quite a few celebs teetering precariously on those excruciatingly uncomfortable looking shoes. Clearly Converse decided to get on to that bandwagon with 'Precision Impression 4’ by Davide Allieri.
On the website, these are listed just as ‘Weird Platform Shoes’ and priced at about $58. Not sure whether these are actually wearable and if they are indeed wearable, whether it is possible to walk in them – maybe they give out free walking sticks or crutches along with the shoes?
They look like a crocodile’s mouth so this may be a good name. the thing that struck me about those shoes – if they are in fact wearable, where do the feet go – upper jaw, lower jaw, in-between the rows of teeth? ouch!
They have a CD tray, speakers seemingly with tweeter and woofer, play, stop and forward buttons. Wonder if that CD tray slots back in though – it would be difficult to walk with these weird sneakers otherwise.
