Storing woolen clothes can prove to be quite tricky, that is, if you want to use them again. The warmth that they provide can attract insects like moths and you need to know how to take proper care of winter clothes. Here are some useful tips.
Wash them first
Before you start packing winter clothes away, make sure you have washed them properly. You should wash them or get them dry-cleaned if you want them to last a long time.
Last in first out
When you store your winter clothes, store them in an organized manner. Sort them according to size or type or plan the order in which they will be taken our again in winters. So the lighter stuff needs to be put in last, so that it can come our first.
Storage area choice
Ensure that the place you choose to store winter clothes is dark and clean. You need to clean the place before you put your woolens in it. Spread newspapers on the cupboards and ensure there is no moisture around.
Storage area care
If you want to hang them up, make sure they are well-wrapped and the wrapping is looped close. If you are storing them in a cupboard, make sure to use moth balls. Also cover them with sheet so as to protect them from other pests.
Regular checking
You can’t store the woolens and then forget about them for eight months. You need to check on them every once in a while to ensure that they are still in good shape.
