The other day, I felt the chair shake and I thought this was caused by the dog having a nightmare. No so. We had just had a little earthquake. Various news outlets soon confirmed this. I thought to myself, really? An earthquake? In addition to a pandemic, the ever-extending lockdown, seriously impacted finances and the constant feeling of being caged that makes one highly sympathetic to zoo animals in general? 2020 is a year that started off on really crappy note has simply gotten crappier and crappier.
Every kid who wished for no school, getting up late and playing video games all day is ruing reality today. They got what they wished for and they are not liking it.
That is a very, very screwed up looking vehicle. Similarly, this year seems to have got everything backward. Like I said, 2020 has been really crappy.
It got steadily worse. The Australian bushfires, floods, the death of beloved personalities, with the coronavirus being a constant pain in the backside through it all.
It seemed like a hideous reminder of Bhopal when we heard the news about the gas leak in Vizag that left many dead and many more seriously ill.
In the middle of the day, the clouds gathered. It felt like late evening and it all seemed very ominous and threatening.
This is common in Delhi this time of year: gusting winds that stir up so much dust and sand you can practically hear in crunching on the floor beneath your feet.
Trees and branches broke, things were swept away, there was a lot of destruction.
It was a small earthquake as earthquakes go – only 3.7 on the Richter scale.
We felt and heard it. It successfully added to the sum of our doom and gloom.
We’re all holed up in our houses with the COVID-19 lockdown. But in an earthquake we are advised to get out of doors.
Everything bad seems to be coming at Delhi at once – people are questioning the fates.
This is too much!
As the old Hindi idiom goes, this was like जले पे नमक or rubbing salt into wounds.
If there is a God, God is mean, felt some of the tweeple.
Those who predicted a good 2020 have been proved very, very wrong.
Apart from all else, the economy is freefall, unemployment is sky-high and people who had risen over poverty have slipped back below the poverty line. So yes, 2020 has been pretty grim. The nation wants to know: What else you got for us, you cursed year?
