I read this somewhere on social media: it’s ok if you don’t have a valentine on Valentine's Day, most people also don’t have AIDS on AIDS Day. Sounds about right. The whole rigmarole of Valentine’s Day/Week is a little silly unless you're an adolescent in the throes of your first ‘true love’. That said, the whole idea of expressing love towards loved ones isn't a bad idea either. Yes, it is that time of year again.
Expressing love for loved ones is not the problem. The problem is the pressure of needing to have a romance worthy of showing off to the world!
People take the time to express their love and affection for all their loved ones, not just their significant others.
Roses cost the earth around this time of year.
Valentine's Day isn't just a day, it is a whole week of romantic mush!
Today is #ProposeDay.
This is followed by Chocolate Day, Teddy Day, Promise Day, Hug Day and Kiss Day and then finally Valentine’s Day.
Like this – gifts of flowers, chocolates, stuffed toys are very popular.
Some want us to buy things, some want us to watch movies.
This is a good way to save money that would otherwise be wasted on unnecessary grand gestures, feel some.
The less romantic among us feel this is just another day/week like any other.
Singles have different feelings about all of this
…For a week! It can get painful for single people when all around them, people are rubbing their romances in their faces.
…Or not.
It was the same last year as it is this year.
Some seem to be waiting for love to happen, but not doing a whole lot to make it happen.
Clearly someone bought a bunch of red roses and things didn’t go as planned.
Single people would do well to remember this – on Rose Day, all through Valentine’s Week… and every other day.
