Do you believe that there is wonder all around us? Whether you believe or not, it is everywhere. There is magic in our surroundings, stories in the shadows cast by the sun, music in the ruffling of leaves and most importantly we are surrounded by art everywhere.
The beauty and wonder of nature is art in itself. As night turns to day and day into night, with the change of seasons or the change in weather, the riot of colours, the different hues have us staring. Many people have spent hours, days and even months trying to capture on film that one moment, when nature is full of such moments for us to enjoy.
Even a simple visit to the market in preparation for the days meals can have you in awe. A shopkeeper with an eye for colour and a sense of arrangement can create such brilliant patterns using nothing else but the colours of the fruit and vegetables he sells. All you need to do keep an open eye and really see.
When there is something burning inside trying to get out then the artist will use anything as a canvas. All around you there are walls, roads, buildings and facades. If you pay attention then there is art, here, there and everywhere. Sometimes it is in the dust that has gathered on parked cars and sometimes on the walls of houses.
If you can go back to a notebook from your school days and turn the pages, you will most definitely find neatly jotted down notes from a class. But right in the middle of a boring macro economic lesson you will also find a glorious pattern that you may have created yourself, while lost for a few moments in thought or in a daydream. These doodles or etchings, make for beautoful art when revisited after many many years.
Look around you. The world is full of things that just lie there, or stand there, forgotten. And yet if viewed from a different angle, at a particular time of day, when the play of light does something magical, these inanimate objects turn into something alive and like all artform, tell a story that is a must to hear.
Splash of colour here, play of light there, a rip and a tear. Put a few posters and matchboxes together and you have an abstract piece which can be interpreted by the viewer and every interpretation will be different based on who they are and how they feel.
This story has been inspired by the Serendipity Arts Festival 2016, to be held in Goa from December 16 to December 23. This festival is a one of it's kind coming together of artists from different walks of life. Musicians, Chefs, Actors, Painters, Designers and many more. The idea is to enjoy art and re-invoke the culture of patrons which had allowed for the creation of some of the greatest artworks of Indian history.
