The Lets walk campaign launched by the royals in UAE has spearheaded a walking movement with great pomp and rigour. These events are being propagated to spread awareness in the community about good health and well-being. Here are some of the best walking groups and campaigns that are rocking the UAE community. So come let’s walk away to greater fitness.
Not the kind of place that boasts of the longest walking tracks, but the quiet sound of lapping water, buzzing bees and the gentle breeze is enough to motivate you to walk a few laps. The calming view of the mangroves in front is very soothing to the senses and ensures you walk in nature’s tranquil splendour.
Deira Corniche is the perfect place to enjoy a good walk or a gentle jog. It has a running circuit of 8 kms for more advanced health aficionados. The circuit has two lanes, one obviously for pedestrians. Do keep an alert watch for young children scurrying around on their bikes as it can get a bit congested in the early morning and late evening hours.
While the crescent circuit is beautiful and picturesque, you do need a lot of patience to do this circuit. Be armed and stock up on plenty of water and a towel to wipe those beads of sweat. The boardwalk is 11 kms one way, so yes you have a lot of walking to do. Also, there is no shade except for the glorious view of the Gulf sea, so make sure you start your walk at a cooler hour of the day. It’s a quiet and luxurious walk for sure.
This park is ideal for families. While your little tots shout and play, parents can take a few quick rounds of the park. Entry is absolutely free for kids under three. There is plenty of outdoor fitness equipment which is available so make sure you are able to sneak in a good workout.
The meandering lanes of the Arabian Ranches Golf club would at least be 10 kms long .The circuit is rather confusing so we recommend you don’t do the entire stretch. Stick to the more straightforward lanes and the comfy neighbourhood and make sure you don’t get lost as you walk the circuitous route. The area is neat, clean and very beautiful. There are tennis courts which are dotted along the way and two lakes with floodlit benches where you can catch a breather. A perfect setting for a moonlit walk!
Hit one of the oldest spots of Dubai for a truly heritage walk. You will be instantly taken back to a bygone era as you step into a place full of culture and intrigue. It’s a short stretch so perfectly doable for families with small children. You will be taken past the beautiful fort which houses the Dubai museum. Take a peek inside this museum to get a glimpse of Dubai’s rich cultural heritage. The entire walk takes about an hour and the end point is the Al Shindagha cultural village. Readers can hang out at the innumerable book shops along the way. If you want to catch your breath with a cooling drink, don’t forget to stop at the Sherlock Holmes pub.
Head to the Abu Dhabi mall before 10 am to squeeze in a power walk in the comfort of the AC, before you begin your shopping fiesta. You will need to get two passport size pictures and an ID in order to join the club.
Just behind this mall is a beautiful and upscale water front promenade. Giving you a great view of the Dubai skyline, it is dotted with benches where you can sit and rest if you get tired. While there is a lot of construction happening, it is still a pretty and popular place for tourists and walkers.
