One can be a part of one of two groups – those who are late for everything or those who are annoyed at people who are late for everything. I belong to the latter category. I find it easy to be on time for pretty much everything – silly me, it turns out, because I end up waiting for all those late Latifs. A late Latif; those who find it difficult to turn up on time for anything – or those around them who tolerate them – will identify with these memes.
There are those who are always late. It is like a talent. I always wonder – how are some people so consistently inconsistent.
Some people will apologize for being late – they really tried to be on time. For others, it is simply a way of life.
Traffic? Didn’t find a cab? Ran out of water in the middle of a shower? Alarm clock did not go off? All the reasons are usually predictable and can be planned for. If one is genuinely interested in turning up on time, that is.
Those of us who bother to turn up on time, usually are unconvinced by the reason given for turning up late. To us, it just seems as though the person that turns up late couldn’t be bothered to turn up on time.
The attitude is, I'm already late, it doesn’t matter if I am a bit more late, let me just take my time. Just for the record, this is an infuriating attitude.
It just seems like poor time management. Maybe they are easily distracted. Maybe they allow themselves to be distracted?
This is so not true – do disabuse yourselves of this notion all you Late Latifs out there. And try to develop a less grand and more realistic opinion of yourself.
The always-late person may think of themselves as royalty – but really, they are not!
For some of us, IST isn't Indian Standard Time at all – it is Indian Stretchable Time. They feel they are not to blame for being a Late Latif – that’s just the way things are supposed to be.
