The quest for ephemeral internet fame coupled with culinary adventurism has birthed so many strange and seemingly inedible concoctions. Over the past few years, we have seen sweet rose Maggi, Kurkure milkshake, Nutella biryani, unnecessarily innovative pizzas and chocolate dosa & more. Carrying forward this tradition of food crimes we now have brownies topped with ice cream and paan, Fanta omelette and Oreo pakoda. Take a look (and try not to throw up):
It’s regular besan paste. The Oreo is dipped into this and fried, served with mirchi.
The more bizarre the idea, the more likely it is to go viral. This is what social influencers aim for – virality is all!
People were horrified and wished they could unsee what they had just seen.
Like this one
Into a crisp puri, goes some crushed Oreo, chocolate syrup, bits of Perk topped with white choco-chips. I cannot even imagine how disgustingly sweet this would be.
What did I just see! It looks utterly inedible – with that inevitable cheese garnish
What do you get when you combine dessert with an after mint – and then for some reason put it on a sizzler plate? This exceedingly strange combo.
This Twitter handle brazenly admits that they serve this! Evidently, there is a market for this sort of thing – it seems to be a well thought out strategy aimed at the more adventurous palates.
Some thought criminal prosecution and jail were in order.
Ice cream burger??? These food crimes are happening in Ahmedabad and other cities of Gujarat.
Remove prohibition in Gujarat, they said. Perhaps removing probation will help distract people from these food crimes? Or maybe Gujaratis will then dream up more bizarre ideas like cocktails with cheese/chocolate syrup?
Or its nadir? I'm not sure these sweet-savoury combinations are just a way for people to get their two minutes of social media fame or whether there is an actual demand for them. But then if someone is innovative enough to create these dishes and there are those who are intrepid enough to try them – I say go for it! For others, these remain food crimes.
