Another day, another food crime on social media? People seem to compete with each other to find strange food combinations that interest some but revolt others, such as Maggi Milkshake and Kurkure milkshake etc. Now someone dreamed up Chinese Biryani. Some were horrified, some said why not --- after all, we created ‘Chinese’ dishes like Gobhi Manchurian which would bewilder anyone from China. And in case you want the recipe, scroll down for the YouTube video of Chinese Biryani.
This tweet expresses dismay at the concept of ‘Chinese Biryani’
My eyes! My eyes! says this tweet. Obviously some take things like this personally.
Each time one eats biryani, or eats Chinese food (Sino-Ludhianvi cuisine as Vir Sanghvi quite accurately described what passes for Chinese food in India) the awful spectre of Chinese Biryani will manifest itself.
This is from the YouTube channel ‘Cooking with Sariya’. The video has 8.5 million views with over 79K likes which seems to indicate that a lot of people seem to like the idea of Chinese Biryani.
It isn't really very different
The voice introduces a Chinese Rice recipe with a desi touch. If you watch the video you will see that there is nothing really ‘biryani’ like about it except that it recommends a layering of the rice and the chicken & veggie stir fry. So basically the ‘Chicken Biryani’ is just fried rice with the wrong name… I think I would try it.
