Headed for Delhi University? Well, one of the things that is most important for any student is to ‘fit in’. And for that you need to know the lingo of this college world, especially if you are coming from some other state. Rather than looking lost, confused and making funny faces at what your friends are really talking about, here are things you should just add to your college dictionary.

The last call of hope

Jugaad The last call of hope

In the world of DU, Jugaad means a simple way out from many situations.  DU students are living their lives on their Jugaads only. Probably, you’ve heard this line “Kuch paiso ka jugaad karde yaar” this is a broke DU student pleading for some cash.  In a simple sense, a jugaad is the last hope on anything for a DU student.

Just Delhi things

Bhasad Just Delhi things

This is one of the most common words of DU’s dictionary. Students scream out their frustration, by saying “Ajeeb bhasad hai”. If a DU student stuck at something, then this is what you will hear from him or her.

A new version of complementing

Totta A new version of complementing

This is an innovative way of DU boys to praise girls. “Totta lagri hai yaar!” is another tacky phrase which you’ll often hear from a DU student especially at the time of fest, when the college grounds are full of smart girls.

Lets go?

Tom Uncle Let’s go?

Tom uncle is the favorite Maggi joint of DU students. In a day, going at Tom uncle for a plate of Maggi is a compulsory call for them.

I look cool with a ciggy

Ciggy I look cool with a ciggy

The word “Cigarette” is too long to speak out (Seriously?), so to give our tongues an ease, students of Delhi University have invented a short form called “Ciggy” for cigarette.

Kalesh Begins

Kalesh Kalesh Begins

Who will us words like dispute or argument when there is an awesome alternative available called “Kalesh”. DU students are real inventors.

Its like, I dont know

Like It’s like, I don’t know

I know this is not an unusual word, but DU students just can’t resist using this. At any point of time, if a DU student starts fumbling, then he/she tries to cover up by using the word “Like” as much as possible.
