Appearing busy is important – if one is to appear important. It isn't enough to work – one has to be seen to work as well. In some offices, people faff around for most of the day and then get into manic work mode nearer the end of the day – this is how people work in, say, advertising. Very often we see people in offices who manage to look busy without actually accomplishing much. Someone started a conversation about the last hour of work on Twitter and many joined in:
Some people may have little or nothing to do by the end of the work day. However, they do have to keep up the pretence of work – because bosses!
It looks like ‘work’ but it accomplishes nothing and makes absolutely no difference to anyone or anything.
This is also how people appear to work – without actually working.
Some just do the same thing again – to appear like they're working. Some just walk around --- looking busy.
They pretend to be working – until it’s time to stop pretending.
It appears that this commentator bullshits pretty much all day.
They don’t even pretend.
Apparently, there are those who are at work – but only on their phones.
Want a break from work? Hide in the bathroom.
The bathroom may not the most ideal of places, but apparently it’s better than working for a lot of people.
Don’t reveal our secrets, suggests this tweet.
…But actually is just goofing off.
Some are more ingenious about hiding from work…if only they'd use that ingenuity to be actually productive.
This seems like a better idea – unless one is being paid by the hour.
On Fridays it’s the last eight hours of work said another tweet --- so that’s bullshitting pretty much all day, not just for the last hour of the work day.
