Drunk texting is the latter-day cousin of drunk dialling. Drunk texting is, as the term suggests, texting someone – at times someone desirable, at times an enemy etc., while under the influence. Drunk texting can be considered a way to get a message across to the object of one's affection or abhorrence, a more cowardly way to do so than drunk dialling. As with other times in a person's life, being under the influence can make one more courageous, more honest or more adventurous while texting:
This is a time when coordination is difficult and mental faculties are somewhat impaired by the consumption of copious quantities of alcohol.
Some people get really maudlin about past loves when drunk. A well-meaning friend may try to stop the foolishness, but one may well be past good sense at that point.
Receiving and sendind drunk texts to a friend may be considerably less dangerous than exchanging messages with a parent.
Drunk texts can cause significant regret the morning after the night before.
Sending those amorous/ loving/ bold/ frank texts may have seemed like a great idea when under the influence. Sober, one may just want to dig a hole and die in there.
Some may just disown the texts they sent – I didn’t text you, the vodka did. True story
Some may view drunk texting as a compliment. As the old adage goes, in vino veritas (in wine is the truth).
