The world was searching for information on musicians who passed on, such as David Bowie and Prince as well as politicians such as Donald Trump and Hilary Clinton. In UK people were most interested in knowing everything about their would be princess Meghan Markel. In India, people were searching for info about Bahubali 2, live Cricket scores and so on. As for the UAE, this is what was most fascinating for the people of the Emirates:
The people of UAE seem as cricket crazy as Indians; the top Google search was Indian Premiere League 2017, followed by iPhone 8, Dangal, Ramadan and Bitcoin. So clearly the people of the UAE are also very interested in the latest technology, Indian movies, religious observances and crypto currencies!
Among the top ten most searched terms in the UAE were, Louvre Abu Dhabi (the stunning recently opened museum) and Despacito (the song that has been such a spectacular global success). These are followed by Diwali (apparently the festival of lights is celebrated in UAE as well), Fidget Spinner (such a craze last year) and VAT in the UAE.
The most googled people in the UAE were internet personality and Youtuber Logan Paul, followed by Wonder Woman star Gal Gadot. People in the Emirates were also very interested in Kerala actor Bhavana, Brazilian football player Philippe Coutinho and Harvey Weinstein, the Hollywood producer accused of multiple charges of sexual misconduct.
The Gulf Information Technology Exhibition or Gitex, known to be the biggest consumer electronics even in the region, which is held every year at the Dubai World Trade Center was the top most searched event. This was followed by the Dubai Fitness Challenge and UAE National Day. Sole DXB, the lifestyle platform for footwear, fashion, culture, art and design and the Dubai Motor Show were the other top searched local events in the UAE.
Sharjah long having been where Indian and Pakistani cricket teams clashed; India VS Pakistan sporting events still seem to fascinate people of the Emirates. This was followed by search terms such as India VS England live, Mayweather VS McGregor (professional boxing match), US Open 2017 Tennis, FIBA Asia Cup 2017 (continental basketball championship).
Surprisingly it is Indian funny man Kapil Sharma, whose show was the most searched term: Kapil Show 2017. This was followed by the global hit 13 Reasons Why, and inevitably Game of Thrones Season 7. The Indian celebrity chat show Koffee with Karan Season 5 and Ramez Taht Al Ard the popular comedy show were the other most searched terms.
Baahubali 2, Fast and Furious 8, Wonder Woman, Beauty and the Beast, and Justice League were the five most searched films in the UAE. There were three other Bollywood films among the top ten list: Raees, Jolly LLB 2 and Half Girlfriend.
The Louvre Abu Dhabi is clearly a destination that fascinates; it was the most searched local destination in the UAE followed by La Mer Dubai (the beach front leisure destination), Roxy Cinema Dubai, Legoland Dubai and IMG Dubai.
Qatar was the most searched news topic. This was followed by Ali Abdallah Saleh (former president of Yemen), Hurricane Irma, Jerusalem and Miss World 2017.
