The local topography and climate of the UAE is such that mangoes are difficult to grow. However, this doesn’t mean that Emiratis don’t love mangoes. They do! Emiratis look forward to the import of mangoes; so they can have their fill of the delicious, sweet, fruit.
Usually, mangoes are imported from mango growing regions such as Pakistan, India and so on. This time around, there was a delay of weeks and many in the UAE were waiting for their yearly quota of the king of fruits to arrive.
The wait was worth it, felt some! “We love Pakistani mangoes” said a lot of social media users. “Let’s celebrate” said others.
Many shared their own images of the luscious fruit on social media. Usually unripe mangoes arrive in the UAE by the end of May and ripe ones are available in supermarkets by the first week of June. This time, people had to wait longer.
After all the delay, people were literally hungry for the taste of the mangoes. Mango strains such as the Sindhri and Almas, in particular have a huge demand in the market for their unique taste and large size.

Several restaurants and even airlines are now offering mango flavoured desserts. For instance Emirates Airlines offers a range of dishes that include seasonal fruit such as mangoes. So the next time you eat out in the UAE, don’t forget to ask about seasonal fruit specials and off-menu items.
