How tiresome it is – shops are selling teddy bears and heart-shaped everything and people are talking about their plans for the big day. All the word game apps I have on my phone have changed their colour schemes and themes to reflect the big festival of love. So it is well-nigh impossible to ignore the fact that Valentine’s Day is nearly upon us. This is particularly annoying for those who may be single. So Twitter suggested this for all the singles out there:
Twitter has a muting feature that lets you mute certain words so that those words will not show up in notifications and you won’t see tweets that contain those words. This is to protect against violent or explicit or triggering content, but it can work to protect from the romance-obsessed hordes as well.
Twitter suggests muting Valentine’s Day, date night, gf bf, soulmate, babe for seven days. Why? According to this comment, because Twitter is single too.
…the admins are single.
Twitter’s lonely too.
The tweeple pointed out that the muting feature doesn’t seem to work for Twitter Lists.
For some people, the muting feature doesn’t seem to be working at all.
While the muting feature is not case sensitive, it does recognise the absence or presence of hashtags in the muted terms.
They decided to mute a number of other words. Forever, not just for a week.
There are a lot of people out there who have zero plans for Valentine’s Day.
This tweet seems to be mocking single people.
For ages now, the tweeple have been asking Twitter to create an ‘edit’ button. The tweeple are annoyed that Twitter has features like muting but not something people have been asking for, for so long.
The fact that Twitter isn't listening seems to indicate that this is yet another term they’ve muted.
For some people one day is exactly like every other.
I thought this was someone being very, very specific about their muting and then I realised this was just some restaurant being clever.
Some said thanks to Twitter for the timely reminder. Either that or they were just being sarcastic.
Perhaps this person lost someone or was dumped. Clearly muting a word or two is not going to help with the heartache.
Some have heart ache. Or maybe just acidity?
Some singles didn’t appreciate Twitter's muting idea. Clearly there are some singles that are not merely alone, but actually lonely and not happy to be so.
