They say there is no end to human inventiveness. This is probably true; sometimes it’s a great thing and sometimes it is a really bad thing – considering how stupid some ideas / inventions / trends turn out to be. From time to time, certain trends surface; happily they also die a natural death, however, in the meanwhile millions of sheeple get carried along by these ‘trends’. Check out some body trends that are bound to make your jaw drop:
This is apparently a desirable thing – that your inner thighs do not touch each other when your knees meet. Apparently there are special workouts designed to give one the enviable thigh gap – why? No idea!
Another meaningless Instagram-fed body trend: the curve that appears on top of the thighs as you sit is the thigh brow apparently. Why is this even a thing? Your guess is as good as mine.
This requires the person to reach behind their waist and encircle from behind to try and touch their navel (belly button). This apparently is supposed to show everyone how fit – and/or flexible you are.
How many coins can you balance on your collarbone? No idea? No problem. Someone had to have been having a real idle day when they dreamed up this one.
Are you a 'hottie or a nottie'? Apparently this test will tell: do what is known as finger-on-your-lips in Indian schools. Do when you place our finger along your nose and chin; and your finger touches you lips, you are good looking. If not, hard luck.
So you hold this standard printing paper in front of your waist. If your waist is invisible beyond the sides of the paper, you are – beautiful? Thin? Beautifully thin? Not sure that this proves.
It is apparently desirable that a pair of legs looks like a pair of hot dogs: brown, smooth, hairless and in this case with a topping of what appears to be mayo. Hot? I think not.
There are many more: the bikini bridge challenge which is supposed to show off a concave belly and prominent hip bones, the ab crack which is also supposed to let you show of a flat, toned stomach and so on. The commonality is that all these are about showing off on social media but there is another commonality: almost all these are aimed at women and their bodies and at furthering some unrealistic and unnatural ideal of ‘beauty’. These so called trends create a lot of pressure on young women who want to belong and conform to societal ‘ideals’. Body image and self confidence can be the casualties here. There is only one bright spot here – these stupid trends tend to die natural, quick deaths soon enough.
