Babies and small kids have no subterfuge, no artifice. They are honest and they are shorn of pretence. That is why their reactions are often the most genuine, unvarnished and delightful of all reactions --- particularly when they try things for the first time. A video of a child trying ice cream for the first time has gone viral; as did other videos of kids trying things for the first time.
Baby takes a first bite. Then the eyes round in amazement and then there is a lunge with both hands for more of the deliciousness.
There were many comments bemoaning how this was the start of lifelong sugar addiction and an early invite to cavities. However, there is no denying that this is very cute…especially the way those little eyes widen right before the double-handed grab.
I can totally identify with the extreme reaction that baby to the tart food tasted for the first time. I also feel that it is rather mean of the parents to do this to them – give them stuff they know they will have a strong reaction to – only to be ready with their cameras to record that extreme reaction – just to have a good laugh.
This little tyke is really into his bacon – watch how he shuts his eyes and purses his lips to savour that salty flavour and then keeps trying to pronounce his new fave food. Bacon being my fave food in the world; I totally identify with this.
This compilation of babies and their first cakes is rather amazing. As a parent, I was constantly thinking about the mess and the difficulty of cleaning up baby and house after the party was done and dusted. I cannot, however, deny the Cute Quotient of babies getting to do whatever the heck they want with something that is huge, gooey, colourful and edible --- it is just a lot of fun.
Here is a compilation of kids trying new foods for the first time: they react either with delight, demanding more or with distaste; spitting out that unwanted mouthful. Sometimes the reaction is very, strong, very audible and defies any kind of categorization. But in each case, the reaction is frank, unadulterated – very dramatic and just so very adorable.
