We all know clothes get washed in the washing machine, but you might be surprised to know there are several other household items that you can toss in there as well. No, it will not spoil your machine or the product and of course will save you time and money. So, the next time you pick up the basket to wash clothes, you may like to pick one of these as well.

1. Lego

That’s right, Lego. Toss them in a laundry bag, run them through the machine, and they’re no longer covered in various sticky things and dirt. That will make you feel a lot better the next time you see it in your child’s mouth.

2. Car mats

You may wonder what’s on the bottom of your shoes when you sit in your car, but a quick cycle in the washing machine can make your car mats look like new.

3. Oven Mitts

Add oven mitts and potholders to your load of dishtowels and washcloths.

4. Stuffed Animals and dolls

If you have a little one, or a dog or cat, you can toss their loved ones in the washing machine for a deep cleaning.

5. Pillows

Think about how much sweat ends up inside your pillow. Surprisingly, you can wash both down and synthetic pillows in the washing machine. Just make sure that you dry your pillows thoroughly to avoid moulds.

6. Backpacks and lunch boxes

When those backpacks and fabric lunch boxes get grungy, throw them in the wash. These items will need to hang dry, so try not to take on this task on a school night.

7. Shower Curtains

Clean a plastic shower curtain with a regular amount of detergent. Add two or three bath towels for extra cleaning power. Hang to dry.

8. Hats and Caps

Spray caps with stain remover and let them sit for five minutes. Run the hats on a short cycle using cold water. Reshape each hat and allow them to air dry.
