They say there are some pictures that say a thousand words – then there are some that can be interpreted any of a thousand ways. One picture featuring a lioness and her cub has gone viral for just such a reason --- the lioness seems to be imparting some profound wisdom to a cub; presumably her own offspring. The tweeple had a lot of ideas about this; particularly relevant as 10 August 2020 is World Lion Day.
Numbers of this mighty predator are declining – poaching, the shrinking of their habitats are some reasons.
Though the Asiatic lion, found in the wild only in Gir in Gujarat, has seen some increase in numbers, other lion populations have not fared as well.

As one of the biggest land predators in their natural habitat, lions are thought of as the rulers of the jungle.

Mischievous kids and loving, protective parents are as heartwarming --- whether among humans or the big cats.

Perhaps the wise mother is telling her cub that prudence is sometimes the better part of valour.
