There are some challenges that are more worthwhile than others. They are not just fun and games but something more meaningful. The pledge for Zero Accidents in Dubai is one such pledge. Here is all you need to know about this initiative from Dubai Police and participating in it as well.
It is on the occasion of schools reopening that the Dubai Police have initiated an initiative to draw attention to traffic rule and regulations and to promote safe driving among the city’s road users. This is one of the awareness-boosting measures that will help to maintain the city's accident-free record.
Most educational institutions in Dubai will reopen on 2 September and this is the day when more kids will be out and about on the roads. There will also be more school buses plying on the roads.
The Dubai Police have invited people to take the pledge to drive safely as students head back to school on Monday, 2nd September. As about five hundred thousand kids will resume school, the police are reminding people of Dubai city to take a pledge to ensure zero road accidents in the city.
This initiative was found to be a great success last year in 2018 when there were about one million people signing up for the pledge to keep the roads accident free. More than the number of people signing up, it was heartening to see that the number of accidents went down 50% as compared with the same time of the previous year.
You can log in to the Dubai Police website to take the pledge. More importantly, you can take care to scrupulously follow traffic rules and regulations not only on 2nd September but every day. Strap in when you drive. Give way to official convoys and emergency vehicles. Keep a safe distance between your vehicle and other vehicles. Never use your mobile while driving and make sure you give priority to pedestrians who are crossing the road.
Those who participated last year got this certificate. Those who take the pledge this year will be entitled to receive discounts on traffic fines. More importantly, the “A Day Without Accidents” initiative will help to create a culture of safe driving not just on the day when kids go back to school --- but all the days of the year.
