Thought as one of the most intelligent people ever, Albert Einstein is often quoted as having said these words: only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity. And I am not sure about the universe. And to be sure, human beings frequently present evidence of this infinite stupidity. There are some things that betray the terminal vacuity of human beings, such as the things they say and the things they do… also the things they buy and sell:
Yes you read that right: a bag of air is on sale at eBay. Yes this bag. Why? It was ‘filled’ with air at an Adele concert; condition “like new” whatever that means.
When you look for the item on eBay – with the plastic label dated '13/3/2017' with 'Adele' and 'Adelaide Oval' also written in black ink – it is no longer available. Presumably, someone bought the object by paying the starting price of $14.95 or more for it. Go figure.
This is far from the first genius who had the idea to sell air in a ziplock bag (photo of concert tickets provided for authenticity). And this one had lots of idiots for company. There were over 90 bids and this piece of plastic finally sold for $65,000 on eBay.
There are lots of “Haunted” things for sale on eBay; among them this hideous object (bidding to start at $46.66) that is supposed to be possessed. Apparently you could buy this if you were desirous of happy happenings such as electrical disturbances and moaning and crying in the house.
So you like the song Wannabe? Also want to be a total nincompoop? Go ahead and bid for these regular “spice girls shaped” twigs. Oh sorry you cannot. There were 27 bids for this lot, because at least those many people believed that the twigs had spice girl personalities. These were then sold for £62.
Presumably the seller wanted upgrades and assumed that there was a buyer out there who was just flat out brainless enough to buy something this creepy.
You know that an air guitar is, any of us looking embarrassingly silly on a dance floor, when the favortite song gets to the lead guitar bit, right? The air guitar “from the 80s…used once at a Bon Jovi rock concert and taken out a few times since… after about 6 beers” was sold. For $5.50. Einstein was right wasn’t he?
In the past, people who had imaginary friends, hid the fact, fearing being thought of as insane. Now they want people to know; which is perfectly fine. But they also want to profit by selling these oh-so-dear friends. Apparently some of these friends are smart, discuss politics and have specific tastes in beverages. This has worked at least once; an imaginary friend went for $2,750 though shipping costs – being completely imaginary – also unnecessary - could be anyone's pick.
