Anand Mahindra is one of India’s most-followed businesspeople on social media. Sometimes Mahindra makes some rather cringe-worthy posts but often lauds good ideas and posts things that start useful conversations. Recently he Mahindra posted a video of little kids playing cricket – it’s a cute little joke, but it also makes us think a bit.
Today we use different types of screens – such as a mask, glass and other types of partitions and of course devices of all types with screens for working, studying, socialising.
The kids pretending to be in front of a screen that isn't a screen at all, taking a ball through that screen – it’s cute and clever, thought the tweeple. Some recalled an old Onida TV ad.
This is a sort of rustic jugaad; a type of 3D TV, according to this tweet.
Kids are direct and uncomplicated. Sometimes they say all the wrong things – like this video shared in reply to Mahindra’s post.
In the past year and a half, it has been possible for some kids to continue their education online – only because of these various screens. People shared their own initiatives such as this one that promotes the online education of tribal kids.
They recalled the carefree days not only of pre-pandemic times but also of their own childhood which is quite different from the sort that kids today have.
So many of our experiences happen online or are virtual these days. We work, study, ‘meet’ each other, and even have parties online these days.
This person appears to be in a room flooded with water – but the screen up on the wall seems to be working just fine!
Most of us long for the times when we could socialise, meet loved ones and travel; experience life without the fear of infection or public health protocols. For some, this is akin to a ‘simulated prison experience’.
The video of those kids pretending to watch cricket on a fake TV is adorable according to the tweeple. And Anand Mahindra’s lament about the importance of all sorts of screens in our lives is thought provoking.
