Apple produces some of the host highly desired phones in the world. Each time there is a new product launch or even a software update; this causes a tizzy on social media. It also, inevitably, reignites the Apple v Android debate – for the nth time. There are also those who gleefully make kidney jokes about the new launches. So when Apple iOS 14 was launched some were breathlessly lauding its stellar features while some jaundiced voices were decrying them as old hat.
Incoming calls do not take up the whole screen. Widgets can be placed where wanted; apps can be grouped etc. etc.
Features such as digital car keys and watching videos while doing other things were hailed by the Twitterati and breathlessly reported in the media and on social media.
…This.
These are new features? Doesn’t seem like it!
Android users feel that there are a bunch of reasons not to buy Apple phones. As an Android user myself, I agree that Apple makes people fork out a whole lot more for meaningless exclusivity. You know about Veblen goods? That.
Some Android users pointed out that these features were already available to them and that this helped refine those features. A win-win for everyone.
Apple makes it look different and then presents it to their users as a brand new idea.
Apple successfully repackages already available features mostly because their users don’t even know that these features have been around literally for years.
But Apple users don’t mind paying more – they just presume that if it costs that much more, it must be better.
Some Apple users really got their knickers in a twist about the mockery from the Android camp.
They insist that Android is the cheap knockoff, not the other way around.
Apple users feel that Android users are curious about iOS updates and not the other way around.
Apple manages to make a big event out of all launches. Meanwhile Android users are like ho hum!
What??
There are those (sensible) ones, who have nothing to do with the tech-squabbles on social media between Apple and Android fans. They don’t really care whether Apple released iOS 14 or whether Android already has those features.
