I'm pretty sure people used to do really weird and scary and just frankly WTF stuff earlier as well. However, thanks to the ubiquitous smartphones all around, we just get to know about it all now. This really bizarre video of a mother dangling her son down a rope from the ninth to the eighth floor was recorded by a neighbour and has since gone viral – check it out:
In the video, we can see a bunch of people on a balcony. A woman can be seen pulling a child up from a lower floor using a rope of some sort. When the camera pans out we see how high up they are, and how incredibly dangerous and foolish this whole thing was.
The flat below seems unoccupied and the child appears to have been sent down to retrieve some clothing item. It is perplexing that the family saw the need to endanger a child’s life – no matter how urgent the requirement.
Either this person really thought that this exceedingly foolhardy idea was somehow brave or character-building, or they were just being facetious.
Others had more extreme reactions.
This clip went viral and many publications reached out to the family for their comments. Apparently, the child is quite fatalistic about his balcony trip – everyone has to go someday, he was reported as having said. The woman in the video was reportedly concerned --- that someone was filming the incident.
What could possibly be so important to retrieve from the balcony below that was worth risking the child's life for, wondered people.
Isn't such child endangerment a crime, wondered people.
It is strange that many Indians are well aware of the emergency number that Americans dial when they have medical or other emergencies, want to report a crime etc. However, we are not too clear what or whom to call when we witness domestic abuse or an incident such as this one where a woman callously dangles her own son down a rope in a high rise building – all to retrieve a piece of clothing. This is India, reminded other commentators. The police don’t have time for trifling matters such as child endangerment or abuse.
