Changing Their Name and Other Strange Things People Did While Drunk

One of the most surefire ways to get a party going is to serve booze. Tongues loosen, inhibitions lower and people become altogether more affable and amenable to interacting with others. However, freely imbibing of booze or rather over-imbibing can have some rather strange and unforeseen consequences. One man changed his name, another sold his car, yet another was a thief who forgot to escape… people have done some truly ill-advised things when drunk:

Changing one’s name to Celine Dion

This Facebook post went viral and was shared thousands of times: Thomas Dodd confessed that after a little too much festive drinking he had changed his name to Celine Dion. Finding out that one now had an altogether different name had to have been extremely disconcerting!

Selling a car

This New Zealand guy woke up one day to find his car was gone so he went and reported that he thought was a car theft to the police. However the guy had actually ‘sold’ his car the previous night for $800 just so that he could keep drinking. He had forgotten this tiny little detail.

Using turf as blanket

Things become somewhat blurry after a few, don’t they? Astro turf can appear like a cosy blanket in those circumstances. This guy was clearly not seeing things clearly but some things he got right, such as holding the beer up the right way to prevent it spilling.

Charging… something

There is a lot that one isn't seeing clearly when under the influence. However, there could be some things that one knows one has to do: like charge… something. So this person diligently remembered to charge what they imagined was their phone, however what they actually ended up ‘charging’ was a bar of chocolate.

Forgetting to escape

I have heard of burglaries where the thief took the time to have a drink or take a nap on their victim’s bed. So in itself, this story of the thief drinking champagne is not unusual. What is unusual however is that one thief burgling a South Mumbai apartment got so caught up in the drinking that he passed out. He sort of forgot to escape and was caught.

Hating one’s job

A court stenographer called Daniel Kochanski clearly hated his job. So much so that he typed ‘I hate my job’ instead of making court transcripts as he was supposed to do. This apparently wreaked havoc in about 30 matters before the court. So the guy was fired; relieved of the job he clearly hated so much.

Jumping off a balcony

People feel compelled to do some very strange things when drunk --- such as jumping off someone else’s deck and even losing a tooth, as in this case.

Abandoning veganism

Kole Olsen claimed to be vegan but was clearly craving his meat fix when he demanded 200 chicken nuggets at a McDonald’s drive through. In vino veritas (there is truth in wine) they say. Perhaps booze just makes people behave in ways that are more authentic? The strange things they do while under the influence may be the things they actually want to do in reality?
