Check Out These Twitter Billboards about the Year That Was 2020

I think there is a general consensus on the fact that 2020 has been a pretty crappy year, with more than its fair share of disasters. Most of us cannot wait for it to end, but paradoxically don’t want it to end because we don’t really know what fresh horrors await us in 2021. Twitter’s New York City billboard tweet series that reached out to various people all over the world resonates with all of us for this reason:

Dionne Warwick’s tweet

The 80 year old singer is something of a Twitter star and her tweet about fresh beginnings in 2021 finds itself emblazoned across a New York billboard.

We’re so over 2020

As this tweet clearly states, we really not into 2020 anymore – we’re ready to consign it to the bin of history.

Tweeting to the NYT bestselling author

Hold my beer has become a catchphrase for people wanting to indicate that better (or worse) is yet to come. Let’s hope 2021 isn't going to try to outdo 2020 in terms of awfulness.

Trying to forget

Those that have suffered the most in 2020 are going to want to forget about the year past and never speak about it again.

Let’s talk terms

What’s in store in 2021? Some of us would like some assurances.

Or a trailer, at least

If we could just have a preview of what lies in store for us, we would mentally prepare ourselves.

2020 doesn’t count

In the view of many of the tweeple, we should be able to pretend that 2020 never happened – or at least have the option of doing it over.

Don't 'add it to my age'

We haven't really lived this year, so how can we be older? This year doesn’t count so it doesn’t get added to one's age either, says this tweet response.

If 2020 was a car

Most people didn’t like where this year was going and now want it to stop so they can get off.

Customer’s revenge

Writing a bad review for a product or service is a form of protest. And this has been a year of protests.

That 2020 feeling

Many of us feel that this year just sort of ran us over.

It’s been weird

And it was made weirder by the doctored media and fake news (such as this doctored image that went viral) that is everywhere on social media.

Agreed

The tweeple agreed with the angst-filled billboard tweets.

Meanwhile

While people were expressing their annoyance with 2020, others were still asking for an edit button for their tweets.

Some are not optimistic

2020 was bad – but what if 2021 is worse?

Or maybe not

These two images contain hope – if 2020 was the year of social distancing and the mask, maybe 2021 will be the year of the vaccine – and a return to some normalcy?
