Some men are so nice! They will mansplain to a woman how she may divest herself of troublesome things such as opinions, personal aspiration or agency. They will helpfully explain how women can “embrace their ancient, biological nature” so that they exist solely to enhance the comfort and life quality of the men in their lives. A convention in Orlando Florida did just that – it promised to tell women how to be great again; how to achieve that coveted position of the ‘ultimate wife’ --- for the modest fee of $1,999 (about Rs. 1.43 lakhs). At first, I thought this was a joke – turns out, it isn't.
They will tell women exactly how they can mould themselves into the ideal woman. The convention blurb helpfully informs us, "men prefer debt-free virgins without tattoos."
Some wondered if this event was real or just some sort of joke. The topics of discussion include the “ills of feminism”, having “unlimited babies” and “beating the competition to “become the ultimate wife”, so such doubts about the veracity of the event are understandable.
It is obvious that women’s rights movements have brought about significant positive changes in recent times. There are many men who resent this change as it means an erosion of what they see as their entitlements. They want to arrest the change under the pretext of tradition and biology.
Some of the reactions to the laughably regressive event were simple; like this. “I see handmaid's tale season 4 has dropped early,” said another tweet.
May tweets referenced the dystopian series about a fascist regime that brutally controls and subjugates women.
Others expressed disinterest/indifference to the event and to the seemingly evolutionarily challenged men who seemed to be hosting it.
Women are talked down to and have to suffer mansplaining on any given day. Do people really think that women would pay a couple of thousand dollars to subject themselves to yet more mansplaining?
Many of the tweeple thought that this was like a ‘mansplaining event’ – which this image represents.
The tweeple wondered why any woman would want to pay for something she was subjected to for free each day – especially on Twitter!
Both men and women on Twitter were embarrassed by how regressive and ‘unwoke’ the event and everyone connected to it seemed.
Some seemed interested in attending – just out of curiosity. Others wanted to, just so that they could heckle the speakers or at least play a derisive laugh track while they spoke. It’s not very mature; but then guys who organise an event designed to create the ‘ultimate wife’ and to ‘make women great again’ doesn’t sound very mature either.
