Dark Humour Surfaces in Times of War – Like This Twitter Handle Supporting Ukraine

There is a war on out there. The Russians have invaded Ukraine and the people of the invaded nation are living lives of constant fear, danger and uncertainty. However, we’ve seen how the Ukrainians have had a unique way of dealing with the situation; and not just because their leader used to be a standup comic and entertainer. Even in the horror of war, this Twitter handle called UkrainianProblems is finding humour – albeit dark humour:

UkrainianProblems

This is a handle that speaks about “Those little everyday irritations like bad drivers, losing your TV remote and being invaded by Russia. Supporting the people of Ukraine”. Fairly self-explanatory.

Basically this

This is a war that the Ukrainian certainly didn’t ask for. However the nation is putting up a spirited resistance in place of the walkover that many (including the Russians) expected them to give the invading Russian army.

This is literally true

World news is currently dominated by stories about the ongoing war, possible talks, aid, opinion and analysis.

“Not funny”

People thought that tweet is in poor taste and not funny. People who think this, are missing the point – it is not meant to be funny.

Support for Ukraine

The colours of Ukraine and Wordle – some of the trending topics of recent times.

When a sunset…

…Is not a sunset but a nuclear power station that was bombed. Let that sink in to understand what Putin is doing in Ukraine.

When regular problems…

…Become slightly less important.

When nothing matters very much…

…Except survival, that is.

When you know what Novichok is

Novichok is a poisonous nerve gas that is lethal enough to cause death by suffocation. This was developed at the GosNIIOKhT state chemical research institute of the USSR as a chemical weapon. This actually brings home – rather forcefully – the constant danger that the Ukrainian people are currently living in.
