Mahendra Singh Dhoni must be a disappointed man these days. After losing to the West Indies in a gripping semi final match, and failing to reach the finals of the ICC World Twenty20, he has every reason to be disappointed and yes angry as well. For any of several reasons:
Losing the semi final
MSD likes to win. Captain Cool didn’t let on, and retained his equilibrium till the end but it had to have hurt the first captain to ever have won a T20 World Cup, to have reached the semi final and then lost. That picture of celebration above had to have been difficult to swallow, especially when our guys looked like this:
The blasted no-balls
Never did a bunch of no-balls cause an entire country so much heart burn! According to many, the way that the Windies capitalised on the overstepping of the line may have actually cost us the match.
Abject surrender by the top order (barring Kohli)
Virat Kohli came through in all the important matches and showed everyone why he is a rock star. Not so the rest of the top batting order. The rest of India’s batsmen together did not score as many runs as Virat Kohli. गुस्सा तो आएगा ही!
The Bangladeshi crowing
As if it wasn’t bad enough that his team lost the semi final, MSD had to tolerate some tweets and Facebook posts by the Bangladesh players; posts in excessively poor taste it has to be said. Mushifiqur Rahim apparently went to town on Twitter and Facebook saying he would now sleep better. MSD could be pardoned for thinking what an immature troll!
The ‘expert’ analysis
Everyone in India is a cricket expert and everyone had sage words of advice to offer post the semifinal loss. The captain who must have thought long and hard about team constitution, tactics, batting order, and bowler selection was subject to all manner of criticism and questioning from everyone and his dog! And then he had to hear this question for the umpteenth time:
“When do you plan to retire?”
He’s having some ‘fun’ here but the man is angry here; wouldn’t you say? Watch:
