He is arguably the inspiration for our own King of Good Times. Richard Branson is the original – the guy with various business interests; someone who is very rich and doesn’t mind who knows it. So when this guy who likes to live a lavish lifestyle very much in the public eye, decided to go into space, many offered their opinions on it. According to reports Richard Branson also has an Indian connection:
We all have dreams don’t we – some of us dream of going into space.
Branson’s company Virgin Atlantic is said to have pioneered a new technology that makes reentry into the atmosphere smoother.
It is expected that the innovation could have favourable impacts on space travel in the future.
While some were asking if this is just another gimmick meant for publicity others thought that an expensive space flight is unseemly at a time when so much of the world is suffering.
Like a lot of high profile business people, Branson comes in for a lot of criticism for his flambouyant and lavish lifestyle.
Some questioned the term ‘space travel’ and argued that this short 90-minute trip is actually just a trip to the edge of space.
This was the tenor of many tweets.
A lot of the tweeple tweeted about the interest in space travel among uber rich, high profile men such as Branson, Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos and their penchant for space travel
While these men have many admirers of their personal success stories and undeniable business acumen, many feel that these are people who could make a difference in millions of lives but choose not to.
Many feel that space travel of this sort is just a waste of money that could be put to far better use.
Though Branson’s venture into space is touted as ‘opening up opportunities for others’, this is not really feasible for most humans on earth.
The interest that Branson and so many of the uber-rich have in space travel probably has something to do with the fact that they are eyeing the space tourism space.
Some dislike Branson, Bezos and Musk.
Sirisha Bandla was one of the people who accompanied Branson on this space flight.
This makes her the second Indian born woman and the third woman of Indian origin to go into space. Richard Branson reportedly also has another Indian connection. A DNA test traced his ancestry to Cuddalore (Tamil Nadu) in India and to 1793 to a great, great, great grandmother named Aria.
