There is nothing that escapes the notice of social media denizens; particularly the tweeple. There is nothing that isn't cause for outrage. If, like me, you use Gmail regularly, you probably noticed some changes but thought little of it beyond that. The tweeple however, were on it. They had a lot to say about the new Gmail logo.
Yes, most people noticed but thought nothing more of it. For others, it was too much!
There were others, however, who noticed and then went on to outrage about the new Gmail logo.
How did Gmail come up with this?
Apparently, mail is supposed to come in envelopes. I do have to point out though, that mine hasn’t in years.
It was assumed that Google was going for some sort of design upgrade and got it all messed up.
People didn’t like the new logo because they didn’t think the old one needed changing.
Apparently, there are real issues with the new logo, as this commentator points out (an envelope is universally recognized, but an M for ‘mail’, not so much).
This happened to me a couple of times – I thought I accidentally shut the Gmail tab which is otherwise open all the time in my browser. But then I got over it!
Then there were those who had other imaginary problems with the logo.
True, mixing blue and yellow gives us green; mixing red and yellow gives us orange. This would have been less disturbing.
Some had objections about every icon having the same colour scheme because it makes everything look the same.
The whole suite design update had many complaining about the colour uniformity.
This is anxiety I don’t need in this already anxious-making year 2020, said several of the tweeple.
There were those who felt that this was unnecessary in the middle of political upheaval and a global pandemic.
The tweeple listed several other logos that they thought the new Gmail logo looked like.
I hate to break it to you, but the new logo is already in place across devices.
Then of course there were those who liked the new Gmail logo amidst all the outraging and railing against something so insignificant. As for me, this is a complete nonissue though I use Gmail every single day. And now, can we please get back to real problems such as a global pandemic, world hunger, poverty, climate change and the rise of authoritarian regimes?
