Christmas is supposed to be a time for family and togetherness and the sharing of gifts and goodwill. However many were alone on Christmas, including the most powerful and petulant man-baby on the planet; Donald Trump. Perhaps because he said he was, as he said “all alone” on Christmas, he decided to spoil Christmas for at least one kid. Others seemed to be managing their festive aloneness much better:
Writer and comedian Sarah Millican started this hashtag to reach out to those who were alone; so they could share their woes and help each other out.
Many people were alone and far from home and family. Some had recently lost a dear one and were coming to terms with their bereavement. Some had just endured a breakup, others faced the prospect of a dying beloved pet.
Some were alone because their loved ones were away on a tour of duty. But then they drew solace from a sleeping cat, as this tweet tells us!
Some were deep in debt, some struggling with issues such as depression. Through it all there were those who simply offered to be there; to listen and to try and raise a smile to make others feel better.
Referring to himself as ‘poor me’ Donald Trump appeared to be sulking because no one seemed willing to pay for his big, useless border wall; the wall that he had repeatedly said he would make Mexico pay for.
Many were confused whether this tweet came from the official handle of Donald Trump or from a parody account. It seemed inexplicable that the POTUS ensconced in the White House with 377 staffers is in any way ‘alone’.
More than one twitter commentator drew parallels between the behaviour of the POTUS and that of an angry toddler; something that Trump is frequently equated to.
Trump doesn’t often inspire sympathy among his detractors as he consistently lies and is seen to display sociopathic and narcissistic behaviour. His wife Melania Trump was once seen in a jacket with the words I really don’t care, do you? while visiting a children's shelter. Some had a similarly disinterested reaction to Trump’s plaintive ‘I’m alone’ tweet.
POTUS decided to ruin Christmas for a little boy. He asked him whether he still believed in Santa. The child clearly did; because he had placed a call to the NORAD Santa Tracker, a Christmas themed programme that is supposed to keep track of Santa Claus leaving the North Pole and delivering presents to children around the world.
One commentator thought that this was probably because Trump had just learned the word ‘marginal’ and was anxious to show off that he knew the meaning. ‘The one time he was supposed to lie…’ said another tweet. Well, this is one kid Trump clearly disillusioned for life.
