The people of Dubai would remember the Dubai Fitness Challenge last year; and may perhaps have participated in it as well. If for some reason you missed it last year, you can participate this year as well. Here is what it is all about: we bring you a recap of last year’s fitness challenge and tell you all about how you can derive the benefit from the Dubai Fitness Challenge 2018:
The Dubai Fitness Challenge was launched to make Dubai the most active city in the world. The inaugural fitness challenge was held in 2017; a month long initiative from 20 October to 18 November 2017. It involved various public events that people could participate in and develop the fitness habit.
This is the initiative of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai; the idea being to challenge residents to 30 minutes of exercise for 30 days.
The objective of the month long challenge was to bring about a positive life change with the help of various government and community led events. There were free fitness classes, stunts, motivational competitions, walkathons and much more, organised to get people involved. Many celebrities and elite athletes got involved by hosting classes, sharing fitness apps and motivating people to become more active.
There were those who set a world record by pulling an Emirates aircraft 100 m. Bus drivers also participated. School kids, gyms, offices and the municipality, all got involved in the events. Participants engaged in various types of exercises, games such as football and tennis as well as other activities such as cycling, triathlons, BMX skateboarding, parkour and so on.
After the great success of the inaugural event, the Dubai Fitness Challenge is back again this year. This time the event will be from 19 October to 17 November 2018. Once again, it will feature carnivals, classes and community led activities that will motivate people to get moving.
Participants can take advantage of over two thousand free classes at locations across the city. There will be dedicated fitness villages set up for fitness enthusiasts. Weekend carnivals will be organised for people to have fun while also getting fit. People can enjoy neighbourhood walks, flyboarding, swimming and more.
The app will help participants track their progress over the 30 day period. They can synch to other fitness apps, monitor workouts, find out about classes and fitness sessions, participate in leaderboards, create social groups and view events/ activities. People will also be able to share and track the progress of others to get and boost motivation.
