Dubai to Get Its Second Tallest Skyscraper This Year

Azizi Developments says construction of the second tallest tower in Dubai will begin in the third quarter of 2018, after consultant and architect firm Atkins “refined and updated” the original design based on its recommendations. This will be the firm's most ambitious project to date.

Once completed, the 122-storey building will stand at approximately 570m tall on Sheikh Zayed Road and will be among the tallest skyscrapers in Dubai and the world, said the developer. Construction is scheduled for completion between 2021 and 2022 and will cost $820 million to develop. Collective swoon, did we hear?

Dubai's tallest tower

We can't talk about second-tallest without a glimpse of the tallest tower, right? So let's describe the tallest tower - The Burj Khalifa (Arabic: برج خليفة‎, Arabic for "Khalifa Tower"; pronounced English), known as the Burj Dubai before its inauguration, is a megatall skyscraper in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. With a total height of 829.8 m (2,722 ft) and a roof height (excluding antenna) of 828 m (2,717 ft), the Burj Khalifa has been the tallest structure in the world since its topping out in late 2008.

A timeline of Dubai’s architectural development

Dubai’s architecture has been driven by climate, creativity and enterprise. It is perhaps one of the world’s most captivating cityscapes. On the one hand there is the Old Town, home to winding alleyways, traditional souks and fascinating, classic Arabian-style dwellings; and on the other, there is the sprawling modern metropolis that has risen from the desert sands over the past few decades – a shining example of modern architecture at its very best.

Unprecedented construction boom in Dubai!

The rapid rise of the Dubai skyline under a decade is just incredible. Dubai world trade center, a 149 meter high, 39 storey building constructed back in 1978 is the first high rise building of Dubai city. Today, 18 out of 148 skyscrapers in the city are rising to 300+ meters in height. Unsurprisingly, the Dubai skyline continues to grow. At present 21 skyscrapers are under construction in Dubai.

A magnificent addition to Dubai Skyline?

The city's structure is already a splendid one, with tall towers, breathtaking structures, and impressive buildings. Hence, this upcoming skyscraper will be a beautiful addition to something, which is already mind-blowing. It will simply be an enhancer to pre-existing beauty and awesomeness!

A hallmark of all developed countries?

Dubai is not the only developed country which boasts of architectural wonders. The skyline of cities like New York, China and Singapore display some of the greatest feats of engineering. Seeing so many skyscrapers in a single city also can be an amazing experience for the average tourist!
