Fresh Maharashtra Lockdown Is Meant to Break the Chain, but the Tweeple Won’t Have It

The Second Wave of the coronavirus has hit Maharashtra much harder than other states in India, accounting for about 60% of the total cases in the country. The situation is extraordinary; demanding extraordinary measures. Given the circumstances, the Chief Minister of the state may have felt pressure to do something drastic – and so we have the #MaharashtraLockdown. The lockdown includes daytime restrictions, night curfews and additional prohibitions over the weekend to ‘break the chain’ of contagion. Here’s how the tweeple reacted:

Maharashtra lockdown

What? Didn’t we have enough of the pandemic last year? How dare it return?

We thought it was gone

We relaxed too soon – one of the reasons for the second wave, say some experts.

Mutant strains

The mutation of the coronavirus has been responsible for the current second wave, pointed out some of the tweeple.

Another reason?

With assembly elections in four states, there has been massive campaigning and huge rallies with large gatherings and flouting of rules. The authorities have been strangely tolerant of these.

The signs were there

The authorities had been indicating that there would be a lockdown or a lock-down like situation imposed soon.

Same energy

There is a similarity.

Terms

From 5 to 30 April, there will be a weekend lockdown as well as nighttime curfew from 8 PM to 7 AM.

But why?

People made plenty of jokes about the timings and terms of the lockdown.

Because….

The virus doesn’t see the time or place before attacking.

Weekend plans?

Sorry, not possible.

Disappointed

People looking forward to getting back to their normal lives are obviously disappointed.

Over a year now

It’s been over the year now, since the coronavirus pandemic has turned life upside down.

Remember this?

We saw a lot of this sort of thing about this time of the year in 2020.

Different reactions

While some people such as daily wagers will be anxious about their livelihoods, students may be quite happy.

We’ll Be OK

It’s nothing we haven’t undergone before, said some of the tweeple.

Oh no!

Others are most unhappy about the announcement of the fresh lockdown.

The philosophical reaction

What you cannot cure, you must endure, goes the old adage.

Like this

The COVID 19 pandemic has been something like this.

First wave…

…Second wave, third wave? We don’t know what the future holds – but right now we have the #MaharashtraLockdown.
